Gepensioneerd, Honorary Professor of Practice at School of Chemistry and Engineering at Queen’s University of Belfast
Peter Klusener
Education
PhD Chemistry (Utrecht University)
Work Experience
After obtaining my PhD in 1989 in the field of organic synthesis in Utrecht, I started working at the Royal Shell Laboratory in Amsterdam, initially in fundamental polymers and catalysis, and later in process development. There, I worked on a wide variety of processes, including the styrene monomer propylene oxide process and alkylation with ionic liquids. In recent years, I have worked in battery research at Shell. The latter involved collaborations with universities, including the Queen’s University Ionic Liquid Laboratories (QUILL) in Belfast. In addition to chemical research, I was active in the (central) works council and in recruitment as an assessor and campus ambassador for PhD academics. Working at the interface between industry and academia has given me great satisfaction and enjoyment in my work. After leaving Shell, I remain involved with Queen’s University of Belfast as an Honorary Professor of Practice, with the Utrecht University of Applied Sciences as a member of the Supervisory Board for life sciences degree programs, and I act as a visitor for universities of applied sciences.
